Respite Services
There is a growing need for assistance to families who want to exercise their right to keep their developmentally disabled children living at home as opposed to placing them in an institution or licensed home. Along with these decisions come new and complex challenges that can be detrimental to the overall family dynamic in the absence of professionally trained assistance. These challenges become more complex and specialized in single parent family households, households that include multiple children and other non-traditional family units. In recognition of these challenges C.O.L. offers its respite relief services. Our Personal Care Attendants are standing by ready to provide the following:
- Full supervision for your individual residing in his or her home for a significant duration of time. This service will allow the individual’s parents, guardian, conservator or family caregiver to attend to a more prioritizing issue, chore, or activity sometimes involving siblings of the individual
- Protection for your individual against physically harming themselves or any other member of the household in which he or she lives
- Prevention and/or mitigation of any damage to the home or household items of your individual
- Assistance with personal care and household chores
- Management and assistance with self-administration of medication
- General transportation
- Assistance with meal preparation and consumption
- Actively promote practices that will keep your individual healthy and safe
- Support developing and maintaining positive relationships
- Information to help your individual make the best choices for themselves
- Support in exercising your individual’s legal rights and responsibilities
- Support for your individual as they make progress towards their life goals through seeking to understand their likes, dislikes, hopes and dreams
